15 Facebook Tips {every blogger needs to know} #socialmedia #tips #facebook

Whether we like Facebook’s algorithm or not, we have to acknowledge the huge potential this social media platform still carries in driving traffic to our sites. I know it is easy to become frustrated and want to throw in the towel, but remember this: What other social media platform has the potential reach of Facebook? None. From old to young people, from men to women, from rich to poor, across all demographics – who doesn’t have a Facebook profile?! No other social media network can say that.I know many bloggers talk about moving over to Google+, but the truth is, our readers just aren’t there. One question I get asked a lot, is how I have managed to grow my Facebook page to what it is today. The truth is, there is no magic formula. It takes time and work. I am not an expert – but I do think I have learned a few things in almost two years of blogging! I do have some Facebook tips that may help you out!
  1. Be friendly. Unlike other social media networks, Facebook is about building relationships. Interact with your readers, like their comments … respond to your fans when they ask you questions … care about what they care about. It sounds so easy, but often we forget the social aspect of “social media”. Your page will not grow much if you just dump your links and expect a response. Don’t let link-dumping be your only form of interaction with your fans!
  2. Use pictures – and make sure they are the best quality you are capable of. I cannot express this enough. They don’t have to be magazine quality, but people are more inclined to click a link or further explore with decent pictures. Not only that, but other bloggers are more likely to share those pictures – which means more exposure for you!
  3. Share your work – and stuff from other pages! I actually polled my readers a few months ago asking them what kind of content they liked seeing on my Facebook page. Their options were just Love Bakes Good Cakes stuff, only stuff from other bloggers or a mixture of both. By a large margin – and I mean large margin, people wanted to see a mixture of stuff. Why? Because we all get stuck in a rut sometimes. Another benefit of sharing stuff from other bloggers? They are more likely to share your stuff with their readers! Of course, having said that, share with sincerity and without the expectation of getting something back.
  4. Link up to social parties! I co-host a fun monthly party with some really cool ladies called Let’s Get Social Sunday! We party from the first Sunday of every month and go all the way to the end of the month. It’s a great way to meet other bloggers who are looking to grow their blogs and social media pages as well. Link up, click some of the other bloggers links and let them know who you are, where you blog and that you met them at the social ….. Give them some bloggy love by following them on Facebook (and your other social media!), and more than likely, they’ll be by to return the love!
  5. Be personal without being too personal. Your readers like to know that you are a real human being on the other end. Occasionally, share something funny your kiddos say, pictures of new stuff you find at the grocery store, how excited you were at finding an awesome deal … whatever it is that makes your audience relate to you. What if your refrigerator broke and you need to buy a new one? Ask your audience what brands/models they love and what ones they don’t like so much ….. Planning a trip to a Chicago? Ask them for places you don’t want to miss on your trip! Giving them a glimpse at your life aside from your blog makes you seem “just like them”.
  6. Schedule posts ahead. I have used 3rd party applications in the past, but I prefer scheduling directly to Facebook. It’s too easy for us to be bound to our computers … and occasionally, we need to step away for a bit. I can’t tell you how much this has helped me. Even when I’m not around, I can still have people interacting with my page – which means I have more of a chance of being seen in Facebook’s crazy algorithm!
  7. Use the about me section – be sure to include your name and a link to your website! I can’t tell you how many times I have left a generic comment because I didn’t know the blogger’s name. Your audience also wants to know who you are. Give them something to call you and a way to find you! :)
  8. Be sure to include a FB widget on your blog! Make it easy for people to like your page! This seems obvious, but you would be surprised at how many blogs I visit who don’t have a way for me to easily find them on social media!
  9. Figure out what times you audience is online – and use that time to your benefit! Do you have more of a morning crowd or evening crowd? Is one day better than another? Check your insights and watch when people respond to posts!
  10. Keep it real. Face it, people can see through the malarky. Be you!
  11. As hard as it is sometimes, don’t compare your stats to another page. We all get caught up in the numbers game sometimes. Compare yourself to yourself. Where were you a week ago … a month ago … six months ago … a year ago … etc. Your journey is your own.
  12. Be active! Post throughout the day – schedule ahead if you need to! The more you have interaction, the more likely you are to be seen.
  13. Engage you fans! Find ways to encourage interaction.
  14. Edit your Facebook tabs – click the arrow to the right of the last tab. Hover over any tab and click the pencil (edit) icon. Edit your tab or add new ones! Link to your giveaways, popular posts, other social media – anything you would like to draw more attention to!
  15. 15. Remember Rome wasn’t built in a day. Blogging takes {a lot of!!} time and energy. With good content and consistent social media presence, your followers will grow! Keep on keeping on! :)

I hope you enjoy! Shared at these fun parties!
Don’t forget to share and comment ♥
